Lilliput Rovers get last semi-final spot in Sandals Major League
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Lilliput Rovers secured the final spot in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League as the first round ended in an anti-climactic fashion on Sunday.
Lilliput Rovers joined defending champions Reggae Youths as the qualifiers from Zone B after Flanker United and Granville United had taken the spots from Zone A earlier.
Lilliput Rovers and Cambridge United went into the final set of games tied on 12 points behind Reggae Youths and fireworks were expected.
Reggae Youths, however, beat Cambridge United 2-1 while Lilliput Rovers got points from their game against Irwin United who showed up at Spot Valley High without their uniforms.
All three goals in the game at the UDC field came in a seven-minute span in the first half as Tyrique Scott gave Reggae Youths the lead in the 34th minute.
Rainnar Barnes equalised for Cambridge United two minutes later in the 36th minute but Kemar Reid scored his league leading goal in the 40th minute, allowing Reggae Youths to take all three points.
