JLP under pressure, says Golding
COBBLA, Manchester — People’s National Party President (PNP) Mark Golding says the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has come under pressure, forcing Prime Minister Andrew Holness to campaign at odd hours.
“Comrades, it all begins on Monday. We don’t win yet. They are going to try and do everything they can do. You nuh see the prime minister is out at 2:30 in the morning campaigning. You see what pressure do. Wah pressure do? Pressure buss pipe,” Golding said during his final day of campaigning on Saturday for tomorrow’s local government election.
“Dem never rate we none at all, but trust me, we put them in a corner, so they had to call this election, and once dem call it we run with it and we a deal with it and we a go tek it to them Monday. I am confident that we will be victorious. I feel the wave of power in the people of Jamaica expressing itself in an orange form and we are going to do it on Monday,” Golding told PNP supporters in Cobbla square, Manchester.
Cobbla is a part of the Walderston Division which is being contested by the PNP’s David Knight and the JLP’s Leroy “Lizzy” Mitchell.
Former PNP Member of Parliament for Manchester North Eastern Calvin Lyn told comrades to support Knight.
“I am here to give you some lyrics. The man who held the seat up to last week, dem call him Lizzy. Well, David, my namesake, is going to make him dizzy. My next few lyrics is that the PNP symbol is the head. You have a head and use your head and vote for the head, because without your head you a go dead,” said Lyn, who is also a renowned undertaker.
Earlier, before Golding’s arrival, Lyn told PNP supporters not to pay attention to the name of the party’s candidate.
“Put the X before the head. No bother look for the name of the candidate, that nuh important. They put the symbol there because some people can’t read and write,” said Lyn.
Golding, in his address, told supporters that the PNP is “going through a massive revival”.
“Now we are going to settle down and knuckle down and ready ourselves for what we have to execute on Monday. Monday is a serious day. Monday is not a day for celebration before everything set and everything in place and the work has been done. Ah beg you, just focus on whatever task is yours. Focus on it and execute it well,” he said.
“Comrades, I have been travelling all over this land and I can tell you the PNP is going through a massive revival right now. The energy tun up. The passion is there
— the determination to see change. People want something new, they want something different. They are tired of this rotten Government… We have the most corrupt Government since Independence,” added Golding.
Following the spot meeting in Cobbla, Golding was scheduled to address supporters in Bellefield and Royal Flat.
