Flying Angels win two of four boys’ 4x200m relays at Gibson/McCook
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The visiting Flying Angels team from Canada won two of the four high school boys’ 4x200m relays on Saturday’s 47th staging of the Gibson/McCook Relays at the National Stadium, but had to overturn a disqualification in the Class 2 race.
Kingston College won the Class 4 race with St Jago High winning the Boys’ Class 3 and the Girls’ Open.
The Flying Angels team caught and passed Calabar High about 60 meters from the finish line to win in 1:26.88 seconds to 1:27.00 seconds with Herbert Morrison third in 1:27.28 seconds.
Flying Angels crossed the line first in the Class 2 race in 1:27.72 seconds but were disqualified and Kingston College who ran 1:28.86 seconds promoted to the top spot.
The Canadians, however, protested and were reinstated with Excelsior High placing third in 1:29.01 seconds.
St Jago High’s Class 3 boys won their race in 1:32.15 seconds, beating Jamaica College- 1:32.27 seconds with Kingston College third in 1:34.94 seconds.
KC won the Class 4 race in 1:36.95 seconds, beating Calabar High- 1:38.06 seconds and Herbert Morrison- 1:40. 49 seconds.
St Jago girls won with 1:35.48 seconds, ahead of Wolmer’s Girls (1:35.72 seconds) and Immaculate Conception High with 1:39.45 seconds.
St Catherine High retained their women’s Sprint Medley Relay title with 3:58.92 seconds, beating St Elizabeth Technical (4:03.00 seconds) and Holmwood Technical 4:05.46 seconds.
Jamaica College took the men’s Sprint Medley Relay with 3:30.13 seconds, ahead of Titchfield High 3:32.95 seconds and Foga Road High 3:33.56 seconds.
