Who will be the chairman? It’s Rough Entry against Atomica
Rough Entry, last year’s Mouttet Mile winner, returns to take on competitors in tomorrow’s Chairman’s Trophy feature at Caymanas Park.
However, the foreign invader faces a tough two-time Horse of the Year
Atomica in what should be an interesting race going 7 ½ furlongs. The race is a graded-stakes contest for three-year-olds and older horses.
Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning this trophy race.
1. RAINSVILLE : (5 gr byCasual Trick — Fifty Shades of Grey) — Obviously in the race to earn his spurs at this level.
Rainsville will learn.
2.ATOMICA: (5 ch m by Nuclear Wayne — Honkeytonville) — Atomica was voted as the Horse of the Year 2023 for the second-consecutive year.
Atomica raced seven times last year, winning five of them, including the Jamaica Cup over 9 ½ furlongs (1,900m).
Atomica faced
Rough Entry in the Mouttet Mile on December 2 of last year, but she lost her rider navigating the half-mile turn (800m), and that was that. She came back in the Ian Levy Cup on January 1 and won the 8 ½-furlong contest by 8 ½ lengths in a time of 1:43.4 beating
Is That A Fact. In this small field,
Atomica should use her pace to her advantage, and if she left unmolested on the front, she could go all the way.
3. NEO STAR: (5 b h by Neolithic — Angel Dream) — Neo Star has done well to reach this level.
Neo Star is going to be left behind.
4. IS THAT A FACT (USA): (4 b c by Palace Malice — Valid Code) — He has been doing well in his races.
Is That A Fact was an easy 8 ½-length winner in the Alexander Hamilton Trophy over one mile on January 27. He should go well here, but getting by the top two is a very difficult task.
5. ROUGH ENTRY (USA): (7 b h by Poseidon’s Warrior — Dixie Ocean) — He came to the island for the US$150,000 Mouttet Mile on December 2, 2023 and didn’t disappoint his connections.
Rough Entry, who was suspect over the distance of a mile, sat behind runners and took up the running shortly after turning for home to win, going away by six lengths.
Rough Entry has been training well for his seasonal debut, and with the distance reduced by 100 metres, he surely can win again and prove that he is the real deal.
