Racing suffer first loss in JFF league
Leaders Racing United lost for the first time this season and Tru-Juice lost their third game in Wednesday’s ninth round of matches in the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championship.
Meadforest FC continued their resurgence with a 2-1 win over leaders Racing United at the Bell-Chung Oval while newcomers St Bess United ambushed Tru-Juice 4-1 at the Lacovia Community Centre. Meanwhile, Baptist Alliance took over second place and Chapleton Maroons closed the gap in fourth place.
Racing United’s unbeaten run was stopped at eight games as Meadforest FC, who had one point after their first five games, moved clear of the relegation zone and are now in eighth place tied on 11 points with Faulkland FC.
Rushawn Dallas scored in the 47th minute and Rashawn Oldfield added a second in the 55th minute for Meadforest FC before Tevin Grey who came off the bench in the 57th minute, scored for Racing United in the 68th minute.
Rajay Wright scored twice for St Bess United, taking his goals tally to nine as they over ran Tru-Juice who lost three of their last four games.
Orlando Ricketts, who also had a brace, gave St Bess United the lead after 17 minutes before Wright scored in the 30th and 46th minutes to stake the home team to a 3-0 lead before Dwight McKenzie pulled a goal back for Tru-Juice FC.
Ricketts restored St Bess United’s three goals advantage when he scored in time added at the end of the second half.
Baptist Alliance won their third in a row and moved ahead Tru-Juice FC in the points tables, jumping to 19 points after beating Hopewell United 4-1 at Heartease Community Centre, thanks to a first half brace from Tamar Francis who increased his goals tally to eight on the season.
Francis opened the scoring in the 10th minute but Brickie Wellington equalised for the visitors in the 20th minute.
Francis got his second in the 45th minute and then Alfred Duncan’s own goal in the 51st minute made the score 3-1 while Andre Carey added a fourth in the 88th minute.
Chapleton Maroons are a point behind Tru-Juice FC after beating Grays Inn 2-1 at St Mary Sports Complex as they extended their unbeaten run to four games.
Brown’s Town FC came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Falmouth United at Elleston Wakeland Centre, the goals coming in the last eight minutes of regulation time.
Shakeem Gibson scored in the 82nd minute and Claver Nugent in the 88th minute after a double from former national striker Allan Ottey had given Falmouth United the lead.
At Jarrett Park, former champions Faulkland FC had their biggest win of the season, blanking Petersfield FC 4-0 with the last three goals coming in a seven-minute span late in the second half.
Tyshan Hill gave Faulkland FC the lead in the ninth minute when she scored from the penalty area.
Mikhail Samuels got the second goal in the 72nd minute, Leonardo Fogarty added a third in the 74 th before Giovanni Clarke added a fourth in the 79th minute, five minutes after he came on the field as a substitute.
