From the needy to the greedy
Dear Editor,
The once-pristine Manor Park is now another ugly, smelly town centre of unsightly cardboard and coloured bits of materials used to shield vendors from the elements. It’s a frequent sight to see bus crew hopping from their vehicles to hurry across the road to indecently relieve themselves against the unmaintained white rails.
All this chaos goes on while the people’s land, which previously hosted a market with public sanitary convenience, is idle, fenced off from the masses, no doubt awaiting another grand announcement that will herald the transfer of opportunities from the needy to the greedy. This will be lopsided development that will only widen the gap between the so-called classes and foster discontent.
My passion stems from the fact that my results, who I am , are from the grit and determination of one of numerous strong Jamaican women who raised offspring of value to this nation through the opportunities they grasped in the market space.
And there are many across the society, including well-known individuals in government, with similar experiences, the difference is some wish to forget their antecedents.
