Polo For A Cause
The sun-drenched fields of Chukka Sandy Bay played host last Sunday to a spectacular charity polo event, a fitting culmination of a week of charitable fun, opulence and elegance. The glamorous affair was a sensory mix of athleticism, tasty bites, indulgent cocktails, euphoric beats and nuanced interaction as the air buzzed with excitement, and Champagne flutes clinked in celebration.
Fashionably dressed ladies adorned in berets, boaters and wide-brimmed hats graced the sidelines, their vibrant dresses and impeccable style upping the sophistication quotient. The polo ponies, sleek and powerful, galloped across the manicured turf, their riders skilfully manoeuvering the mallets.
The event is more than a sporting one as it is a philanthropic endeavour of Hanover Charities, with proceeds benefiting local causes. Beneath the shade of elegant marquees, guests indulged in sumptuous delicacies: platters of fresh seafood, artisanal cheeses, decadent desserts and grilled meats, their scent wafting through the air.
Champagne flowed freely, bubbles dancing in crystal flutes as laughter filled the atmosphere. With high points including the divot stomping — a tradition that combines practicality with elegance. As the ponies took a brief respite, guests stepped onto the field and with each stomp, they smoothed out the divots left by the thundering hooves.
Later, the sun dipped below the horizon, as if in sync with the end of a chukka and casting a warm glow over what was a tapestry woven with threads of compassion, luxury, and community spirit — a legacy that will ride on long after the last hoofprint faded.
Cheers to charity, camaraderie, and the timeless allure of polo!
