Beyoncé becomes first black woman to top Billboard’s country music chart
Beyoncé has made history once again, this time by becoming the first black woman to lead Billboard’s country music chart.
According to the Associated Press (AP), the Grammy-winning artist achieved this milestone as her latest single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” soared to the top of the country airplay chart this week. Released on February 11, during the Super Bowl, the song quickly claimed the Number 1 spot, while her other single, “16 Carriages,” made its debut at Number 9 on the same chart.
These songs are anticipated to be included in Beyoncé’s forthcoming country-themed album, known as “act ii,” set for release on March 29. This album serves as a follow-up to her 2022 release, “Renaissance,” often referred to as “Act I: Renaissance.”
The announcement of the new album came after Beyoncé starred in a Verizon commercial aired during this month’s Super Bowl, the AP said.
Beyoncé’s achievement extends beyond country music, as she is also the first woman to simultaneously top both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts since their inception in 1958, according to Billboard. She joins a select group of artists, including Justin Bieber, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Ray Charles, who have accomplished this rare feat, the report explained.
