Ambassador and Special Investment Envoy for Culture and Arts Theresa Roberts hosted an intimate cocktail reception to celebrate the success of her Jamaica Making: The Theresa Roberts Art Collection on exhibit in the UK and accompanying book of the same name.
The reception was held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Roberts’s well-appointed Hanover Grange villa at The Tryall Club in Hanover and saw guests jetting in from the UK and the US to celebrate the milestone. Among the guests was Dr Emma Roberts, associate dean for global engagement and reader in history of art and design at Liverpool John Moores University, curator for the exhibition and the book’s editor.
The exhibition celebrates art created by Jamaican artists since the country gained Independence in 1962, and was officially opened in July 2022.
“I wanted a delightful evening to celebrate the cultural vibrancy and artistic richness of indigenous Jamaican art. As a cultural ambassador, I’m thrilled and excited about the success and recognition that the book and exhibition have garnered for Jamaican artists. This exhibition has attracted over 8,000 attendees to date, and the book is currently in 919 libraries across the world. This we hope will have a profound impact on Jamaican art and art lovers worldwide,” Roberts stated.
