Aqua Fest makes big splash
Sunday night’s staging of Aqua Fest at Summit in Kingston created quite a splash among the hundreds of patrons who turned out to enjoy the pulsating sounds of soca music.
Women and men dressed in pool attire had a smashing time gyrating to old and new jams courtesy of promoter DJ Kurt Riley, Squeak, Barrie Hype and Kevin Crown.
Those who could swim took multiple dips into the pool as they revelled in the festivities under the night sky.
According to Riley, the inaugural staging of the event exceeded his expectations.
“I am more than pleased! Mi good, mi good. This is the stepping stone that I needed for what is to come in May,” he told the Jamaica Observer, hinting at a celebration in the island scheduled in tandem with the Memorial Weekend in the US.
“Plans are already in place for this to happen three times a year, and we’re always going to start it after Trinidad Carnival,” Kurt Riley added.
He further added that the line-up of disc jockeys were made Aqua Fest the success that it was.
“Musically speaking, it’s the combination of DJs. We have Barrie Hype, who is great at introducing songs. He knows all the soca songs, and dancehall, of course. Then there’s Kevin Crown with a different type of energy, and DJ Squeak from Team Shella. As you can see, the pool is now the stage. But, we’re just asking persons have fun responsibly, that’s why we make sure [to] have the medical team here and the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force),” Kurt Riley added.
Meanwhile, patrons were equally pleased with the event.
“This is a nice little weekend wind-down and the warm-up to soca season. The DJs were excellent and I’m just so happy to be here,” Kerry-Ann Morgan told the Observer.
“I hope this is something that they keep again. It’s a great vibe,” Greg Smith shared.
