CPFSA providing support to sexually assaulted 6-y-o old girl
The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) says it is providing support to a six-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by a 15-year-old boy at a residence in St Ann.
In a release on Monday, the Agency disclosed that the incident happened on Saturday, January 27 while the child was left in the care of an adult known to her family. Following the incident, the child was reportedly taken to hospital where she received a medical examination. She remains in the care of her parents.
The Agency says it has also referred the child to the Ministry of Justice’s Victims Services Division for counselling and psychosocial support. The child will also be provided support by the Agency’s Children and Family Support Unit (CFSU).
In light of this most recent sexual assault case, the CPFSA says it continues to partner with the Ministry of Education and Youth to speak out against all forms of child abuse. It said this incident is “particularly devastating because the abuser is also a child,” but says it stands “firmly with the victim and her family and stays ready to offer any additional support that they may need.”
In the meantime, the Agency further sought to remind and encourage persons to report any and all forms of child abuse using the 24-hour child abuse reporting hotline 211. Child abuse reports may also be made through WhatsApp/text at 876-878-2882, e-mail report@childprotection.gov.jm or by visiting any CPFSA parish office, or through social media @cpfsajm.
