WATCH: Golding laments ‘terrible state of farm roads’ in Portland
PORTLAND, Jamaica – While conducting his campaign rounds for the upcoming Local Government Elections, Opposition Leader Mark Golding spoke on the plight of the coffee farmers in Portland, commenting on the “terrible state of the farm roads.”
Golding, who made the comments during a tour of the parish on Saturday, said, “I’ve been travelling down from the border sections come down through the coffee mountains, and I see the plight of the coffee formers. The terrible state of the farm roads…I noticed all kind a little road patching a gwaan all over the place, what a nice thing election is eeh man! Dem abandon you for years and years and true dem wah try get the vote now all of a sudden dem have a flurry of activity.”
Also speaking about the price of coffee, Golding stated, “When we left office the price was $12,000 a box and now they are struggling with $8,000 to $9,000. And so much inflation, cost and prices gone up so much since then, they are finding it the hardest thing to survive.”
He added that “time come” for a new government, and the People’s National Party intends to start with winning the the Portland Municipal Corporation.
“So we can serve the people the right way. And after we send the signal say is PNP time, you know we going to the general, we not easing up because the people seh Time Come!,” Golding said, making reference to the General Election.
