Shirnette Wilson on the rise
While attending Sunday School during her teenage years, Shirnette Wilson was told that one day the Lord would come back to Earth for his bride. It was then that she decided to become a Christian.
“I gave my heart to the Lord because I wanted to reign with him in eternity,” Wilson shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday.
Now an evangelist, Wilson has been a child of God for 30 years.
“I grew up in the Kingston 11 area and I worshipped at Faith Temple Pentecostal Assembly,” Wilson shared.
She recently released her début album, titled Still I Rise.
The 11-track set features 99 per cent of the material that she either wrote or co-wrote.
Asked what has the response been to the release of the project, Wilson said: “I would say it has received a fair response. I am in the process of doing some promotion and creating more awareness of my music ministry.”
Still I Rise features the songs Call His Name (With a Prayer), Keep Me True (Gospel Medley), Breathe on Me Jesus, Jesus Lives, Call His Name, and
Deliver My Soul.
Wilson worked with producers Junior Scott, John Sharpe, Troy Hinds, and Fitzroy Bennett to create the body of work which she hopes will resonate with listeners.
“The songs on the album are coming from personal experiences as well as my relationship with God. Ten of the tracks are all original with the medley of choruses being covers,” said Wilson.
She has been pursuing music for the past seven years and believes diversity with a keen focus on the word of God are what she brings to the table musically.
A trained administrator with over 20 years of service in corporate Jamaica, Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administrative Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Training, and a Master of Education in Educational Psychology.
