Sensational Move dazzles in Reggae Month Trophy win
SENSATIONAL Move, trained by Gary Subratie, won the $1.4-million Reggae Month Trophy feature race over five furlongs (1,000m) straight at Caymanas Park on Saturday, in what was perhaps his best performance yet.
Sensational Move came up against his brilliant stablemate Desert of Malibu, as well as Madelyn’s Sunshine and Emperorthecats, who was unbeaten in the straight, but the improving four-year-old chestnut horse made it seem simple in winning by five lengths at the wire.
Sensational Move, who was competing at the Open Allowance level for the very first time, came home in a time of 59.2 (22.3 x 46.2), winning his second-consecutive race from three starts this season.
With Dane Dawkins in the irons, replacing Raddesh Roman, Sensational Move raced just off the pace as Emperorofthecats (Richard Henry) showed the way ahead of
A Gift From Ben (Paul Francis) and Yellowstone (Romario Spencer).
Coming across the dummy rails, Sensational Move challenged for the lead before turning on the afterburners and sprinting clear for an easy win. Emperorofthecats finished in second place while Madelyn’s Sunshine (Tevin Foster) came from behind runners to get third place. Desert of Malibu (Raddesh Roman) reared shortly after leaving the starting gates but never recovered, finishing in fourth place.
Tevin Foster and Robert Halledeen both rode two winners each to share the jockey’s honours on the nine-race card.
Foster won aboard King’s Crown in the opening event for trainer Steven Todd, and Edina Marsh in the fifth race for trainer Lydia Anglin.
Halledeen’s winners were KP Choice in the fourth race for trainer Ricardo Brown, and Brown Skin Girl in the night cap for trainer Jason DaCosta.
Racing continues next weekend with races on Saturday and Sunday.
