KC, Excelsior retain Corporate Area Champs titles

Kingston College (KC) and Excelsior defended their Corporate Area titles at the conclusion of the two-day championships held at the Ashenheim Stadium located at Jamaica College (JC) on Saturday.

KC, who used the meet as part of their preparations for the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships next month, accumulated 461 points to secure the title ahead of rivals Calabar, with 382.5 points. They were followed by JC (321.5), Excelsior (195), St George’s College (STGC) (153), Wolmer’s (140), Campion College (24), Holy Trinity (21), and Ardenne (17).

In the girls’ section, Excelsior amassed 360 points to claim the championship, edging out Wolmer’s by four points. They were followed by Immaculate (298), The Queen’s School (200), St Andrew (163), Convent of Mercy Academy “Alpha” (152), Merl Grove (88.5), St Hugh’s (29), Holy Childhood (28), and Campion College (25.5).

In the individual events, Wolmer’s Gary Card won the Class One boys’ 200m, achieving a personal best time of 20.87 seconds. He outpaced JC’s Devonric Mack (21.23s) and KC’s Marcinho Rose (21.43s).

Mickayla Gardener of Wolmer’s completed the Class One girls’ sprint double, winning the 100m title on Friday and returning on Saturday to capture the 200m title in 24.13s. Her teammate Abigail Wolfe secured second place in 24.40s, while Akilah Burgher of Queens claimed third place in 24.50s.

Calabar’s Nickecoy Bramwell set a personal best time of 21.45s to win the Class Two 200m event. STGC’s Tyreece Foreman finished second in 21.57s, and KC’s Joshua Grant took third place in 21.58s.

Wolmer’s Natrece East completed the Class Three girls’ sprint double, securing victory in the 200m final with a personal best of 23.27s. She was ahead of Immaculate’s Kimberly Wright (24.55s) and Jada Clarke of Queens (25.15s).

In the hurdles events, Daniel Wright of Excelsior won the Class One boys’ 110m hurdles in 13.35s, ahead of his teammate Richard Hall (13.50s) and Daniel Clarke of KC (13.51s). Queens’ Kadina Deeble won the gold medal in the Class One girls’ 100m hurdles in 14.15s, surpassing Excelsior’s Omarian Constable (14.75s) and Immaculate’s Mireya Simpson (15.20s).

In the final events, Excelsior’s Altonigue James threw a personal best mark of 13.32m to win the Class One girls’ shot put event. Her teammate Kahllah Bailey secured second place with a mark of 12.57m, while third place went to Toniann Bryan of Immaculate, who achieved a personal best distance of 11.97m.

Javar Thomas of KC secured victory in the Class One boys’ triple jump competition with a distance of 15.46m. Excelsior’s Renaldino Medwinter finished second with a mark of 14.01m, and third place went to Calabar’s Khaleel Samuels with 13.06m. Jaeda Robinson of Immaculate won the gold medal in the Class One girls’ triple jump competition with a leap of 11.97m, while her teammate Davine Dickenson took the silver medal with a mark of 11.39m.
