Humble Lion win but could lose points
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Despite a hard fought 2-1 win over Montego Bay United (MBU) at WesPow Park on Sunday, Humble Lion could lose the points from the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League return round game after they used an ineligible player in the game.
The MBU management looks set to appeal the results of the game after documents in an email from the Jamaica Football Federation’s Competitions Committee pointed out, in red highlighted letters, that the player in question had accumulated five yellow cards and was not eligible to play against MBU on Sunday.
A stoppage time goal from second half substitute Javain Thompson broke a 1-1 deadlock for Humble Lion after Andre Clennon had given them the lead in the 38th minute. A 60th minute penalty conversion from Jean Claudio Rios Ferreira had seen MBU draw level.
Meanwhile, the top three teams, Cavalier SC, Mt Pleasant FA and Portmore all scored wins on Sunday to lead the race to the play-offs.
Cavalier SC beat Vere United 2-0 with goals from Jalmaro Calvin in the 16th minute and Dwayne Atkinson in the 37th minute to stay on top with 43 points.
Mt Pleasant FC are a point behind on 42 after an 88th minute goal from SueLae McCalla took them to a 1-0 win over Tivoli Gardens, snapping the West Kingston-based team three-game winning run.
Portmore United also beat Harbour View 1-0 and improved to 39 points as Jahein Rose scored the winning goal in the 54th minute.
Arnett Gardens failed to take advantage of Tivoli’s loss as they were held 0-0 by Waterhouse for their second goal-less game in succession and third straight without a win.
Dunbeholden FC spoiled Hopeton Gilchrist’s debut as head coach of Lime Hall Academy as they ran out 4-1 winners in the first game of a double header at Drax Hall with three goals coming in the last three minutes of regulation and time added on.
Dwight Merrick gave Dunbeholden FC the lead after 18 minutes but Dario Stewart equalised for Lime Hall in the 65th minute. Ricardo Thomas put Dunbeholden back in the lead in the 87th minute, Alex Gayle made it 3-1 in the 90th minute before Thomas completed his brace in time added.
Treasure Beach FC came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Molynes United at the St Elizabeth Sports complex after leading the game with all the goals coming in the second half. Tavar Thompson gave Treasure Beach the lead in the 51st minute but Sergeni Frankson drew Molynes level in the 58th minute before Jevaughn Brown scored what seemed to be the winner three minutes into time added.
However, Damion Herrera scored one minute later for Treasure Beach to earn back-to-back draws.
