Hudson says she’ll retain Hampstead Division on her track record
BUSINESSWOMAN Mitsey Hudson says she is confident that her track record will ensure she retains the Hampstead Division in St Mary Central when Jamaicans vote in the local government election on February 26, 2024.
“A number of roads have been rehabilitated in the division,” the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) standard-bearer told the Jamaica Observer in a recent interview.
“There’s a social intervention programme through 12 corner leagues, called the Barton Oliver Corner League, which brings the youth together. So far, I have built two indigent houses and for my next term I am looking to build more,” added Hudson who is being challenged by first-time candidate Viviene Silvera of the People’s National Party (PNP).
Hudson scoffed at Silvera’s claim that nothing of substance has been done in the division for the past eight years.
“I would say to my opponent that she needs to go on the ground and get her facts straight as my works are too numerous to mention,” Hudson said.
She said, though, that her gender is a contributor to her encountering difficulties getting the job done.
“Many times, as a woman I am tested and tried to see how strong I am,” Hudson said.
However, she is convinced that her strength and patience have helped her to overcome the challenges.
Hudson used the opportunity to wish Silvera well in the election but insisted that the seat will remain in the JLP column as she intends to continue the work she started in 2016 when she first entered representational politics and beat the PNP’s Garick Shaw 1,701 to 1,101 votes.
