Treasure Beach Cricket Festival postponed
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— The Twenty20 Legends Cricket Festival which was scheduled for the BREDS Sports Park in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth on Sunday, February 18 has been postponed until further notice.
Lead organiser, former West Indies fast bowler Daren Powell, told Observer Online early Saturday that the postponement followed the withdrawal for varying reasons of former West Indies batting stars Carl Hooper and Ramnaresh Sarwan.
Powell said Hooper, who lives in Australia, tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) and was unable to travel while Sarwan was forced to cancel travel arrangements because of serious personal challenges.
“I can’t properly express how sorry we (the organisers) are about this,” Powell told the Observer Online by telephone.
“Under the circumstances, we felt we had no choice but to postpone. Our heartfelt apologies go out to all those who have been inconvenienced. I want to say thanks to all those who have worked assiduously in preparing for the event and to those players and support staff who had offered their services for the game.
“We will keep everyone informed of our plans going forward,” Powell said.
He said arrangements will be made for ticket holders to be refunded on request.
