Petrojam determined to be critical player in expanding regional energy market
Petrojam Limited is calling for expanded refinery operations and fuel markets in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.
This was the focus of Petrojam in a recent presentation at the Platts S&P Global Caribbean Energy Conference in Panama City.
The event, themed ‘Caribbean Energy: Transforming Energy through Investment’, provided a platform for industry leaders to discuss critical issues and strategies shaping the future of energy in the region.
The Petrojam team was led by General Manager Telroy Morgan, whose presentation, dubbed ‘Refining Expansion and Fuel Markets in LAC’, underscored the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in an evolving energy sector. Morgan said ageing infrastructure, limited storage and transportation capacity, environmental concerns, and import dependence are some of the pressing challenges in the Caribbean refining sector.
He argued that refining expansion would play an integral role in meeting growing energy demand, enhancing security, creating jobs, and promoting economic growth.
“Petrojam is actively pursuing an expansion of its export portfolio, with a specific focus on heavy fuel oil (HFO), very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), low sulphur diesel oil (LSDO), and asphalt.
“These insights reinforce Petrojam’s role as a critical player in the Caribbean energy landscape and its proactive approach to sustainable growth and development,” said Morgan.
He pointed to Petrojam’s readiness to meet the growing demand for diverse fuel products in the region and noted that Petrojam has exported petroleum products totalling more than US$300 million so far in this fiscal year.
“We are fully committed to advancing eco-friendly energy solutions and are appreciative of any insights into potential opportunities for sustainability, including hydrogen production, sustainable aviation fuel, and transition fuels.
“In the medium to long term, we plan to introduce advanced fuel treatment technologies and implement initiatives aimed improving efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint,” added Morgan.
He also highlighted Petrojam’s initiatives to enhance operational efficiency while minimising environmental impact.
Drawing upon Petrojam’s strategic location and operational expertise, Morgan stated that the company aims to capitalise on these opportunities for growth and market penetration.
“Petrojam is unwavering in its commitment to driving positive change in the energy landscape. Our focus on sustainability, innovation, and regional collaboration positions us for a resilient future. We believe in adopting advanced technologies, diversifying our fuel offerings, and investing in our people to create a lasting impact,” declared Morgan.
