Brianna Lyston wins 60m at LSU Twilight
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaica’s Brianna Lyston ran 7.17 seconds to win the women’s 60m at the LSU Twilight on Friday ahead of the South-East Conference (SEC) Indoor Championships.
After qualifying earlier with 7.22 seconds, Lyston beat a field packed with professionals with Kennedi Blackmon running 7.39 seconds and Shannon Ray running 7.41 seconds to finish out the top three spots.
There were five Jamaican winners at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Travis Williams of the University of Southern California, who equalled his personal best in the men’s 60m, running 6.59 seconds. Tajae Francis of South Plains College placed sixth in the race with 6.93 seconds.
Marrissa Simpson of the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) won the women’s 60m hurdles with 8.13 seconds while her teammate Jordani Woodley was fourth in the men’s race in 7.79 seconds.
Andrenette Knight won the women’s 400m running 51.74 seconds to beat compatriot Leah Anderson-51.94 seconds while Joanne Reid of the University of Arkansas was fifth in 52.54 seconds in her first 400m race of the season.
Ralford Mullings won the men’s shot put with 19.24m, ahead of Roje Stona of the University of Arkansas, who had a season’s best 18.93m and Shamar Reid of South Plains threw 16.59m.
World Championships finalist Kimberly Williams won the women’s triple jump with 13.83m.
Ackera Nugent was second in the women’s 60m Open, running 7.30 seconds while Niesha Burgher of UTEP was second in the women’s 200m running 23.19 seconds and Joanne Reid was fifth in 23.39 seconds.
At the Penn State University Tune-Up, Jordan Scott won the men’s triple jump with 16.51m.
Annishka McDonald of West Virginia University won the women’s high jump with 1.70m while her teammate Abigail Mullings was tied for second with 1.65m.
Nayoka Clunis won the women’s weight throw with 22.37m.
