Flanker United secure zone honours in Sandals Major League
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Flanker United secured Zone A honours in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League after beating Wadada United FC 3-0 in their return- round game played at Flanker on Friday.
The win, Flanker United’s fifth, as they ended their first round schedule, saw them improve to an unbeatable 18 points, seven more than second placed Granville United, and ensure they avoid defending champions Reggae Youths who had topped Zone B before losing 2-1 to Lilliput Rovers on Friday.
Lilliput Rovers’ win which ended Reggae Youths’ six- game winning run, saw them move ahead of Cambridge United on goal-difference, both tied on 12 points with one game left to be played.
On Friday, Kemar Hines opened the scoring for Flanker United when he scored in the 21st minute; Danique Clarke added a second goal in the 66th minute and Humboia Ford made the score 3-0 when he scored in the 78th minute.
Lilliput Rovers did themselves a massive favour with their surprise win over Reggae Youths at the UDC field as they stayed in the race for a semi-final place. Kemar Reid gave Reggae Youths the lead in the 25th minute with his league leading sixth goal of the season but Nigel Dixon equalised for Lilliput
Rovers in the 34th minute before Terrick Dixon scored the winner in the 69th minute.
