5 Star riddim pairs up-and-coming acts with industry icons
... producers say the formula is a winning one
KINGSTON, Jamaica — With the hopes of voicing five of dancehall’s biggest acts on one mega project, RAR Productions crafted a production they’ve dubbed the 5 Star riddim. But after they only managed to voice two of their desired acts, the music connoisseurs decided to pivot. Pointing out that stars are born in entertainment daily, the producers said throwing up-and-coming acts into the mix with icons could only make the project that much stronger.
“RAR wanted to get the top five dancehall artistes in the industry, We recorded Beenie Man first, Sizzla was the second without any issues but the other three artistes we wanted were very difficult to get to record because of their schedules but we kept the name of the riddim and decided to go a different direction,” said Rohan “Fyah Fashion” Robotham. “Stars are born everyday in music so why not use the riddim to also give young acts a platform to shine. We recorded upcoming artistes like Badda General, Kaibanon, G Mac City Lock, Ranymo, Latty J and Rude Link and we also recorded veteran artiste Galaxy P.”
Bragging that the riddim has “the original dancehall vibes of hardcore drum, bassline and keyboards,” Robotham told Observer Online that since its release, the project has already garnered huge attention from disc jocks and radio personnel.
“The riddim is bringing back that party vibe from the parties in the 90’s and early 2000s and so the reaction has been great especially with the Beenie Man, Sizzla, G Mac and Badda General plus Galaxy P songs. The artistes love the mixes on their songs and how the promotion for the album is being handled by our RAR Music Production staff,” he said.
As he gets ready to amp up promotions around the project, Robotham said his team is in the process of adding visuals to at least four of the tracks. He shared that with each of the songs carrying a message that today’s society needs, he believes listeners will continue to support the project.
“The expectation for the project is that the audience will get the messages we wanted to bring across. Sizzla’s song “Business Start Up” is encouraging youths to start their own businesses. G Mac’s song “Life Story” tells a story of overcoming the struggles of the world, Beenie Man’s song is showing people how far you can go when you see yourself as unstoppable. Every song has a message and we just want the people to hear that,” he said.
The 5 Star riddim was produced by Ruff Kut’s Paul ‘Titus’ Green, Rohan “Fyah Fashion” Robotham, Llamar “Riff Raff” Brown, Richard “General” Powell and Garfield “G Mac” McLean.
