Animals deserve love too
Dear Editor,
Valentine’s Day is a time when many of us express our love and appreciation for those closest to us with chocolates, teddy bears, and flowers.
It’s a day when stores and vendors thrive, seeing a significant boost in sales that keeps the economy rolling. However, amidst the celebrations, it’s crucial to remember that love knows no bounds and should extend beyond human relationships.
In Jamaica, our treatment of animals, particularly dogs, paints a grim picture. Too often they face neglect, abuse, and even violence from those who should be caring for them. It’s heartbreaking to witness dogs tied up with short ropes or scavenging for food on the streets, highlighting the scant regard we have for their well-being.
Just as we show love and kindness to our family and friends, we should extend the same compassion to our furry companions. This doesn’t mean giving them chocolates, which can be harmful to dogs, but rather treating them with the care and respect they deserve.
On the heels of Valentine’s Day and beyond, let’s make a commitment to show love to all living beings, including animals. Whether it’s providing food and shelter to strays, adopting from shelters, or simply showering our pets with affection, every act of kindness makes a difference.
Together we can create a more compassionate world in which all creatures are valued and loved.
