Double century for May Day’s Lewis in ISSA/Grace Headley Cup
May Day High captain Christopher Lewis smashed a double century and shared an unbroken opening partnership of 326 with Dever Murray, who made a century, as Claude McKay High were brushed aside in the ISSA/Grace Headley Cup cricket match at May Day late last week.
Lewis, who is also his school’s lead off spinner, hit an unbeaten 124-ball 201, with 14 sixes and 17 fours, while Murray stroked 105 off 90 balls with two sixes and 15 fours, before May Day declared the innings closed at 326-0.
Pacer Sanjay Martin then grabbed seven for 21 as Claude McKay High were dismissed for 34 in ten overs and four balls, carrying May Day High to victory by 292 runs.
At Vere Technical, Clarendon College beat the home side by eight wickets. Vere Technical first made 121 all out with Jamaica and West Indies Under-19 opener Adrian Weir scoring 37 and Leon Palmer 31.
Bowling for Clarendon College, leg spinner Jason Campbell took five for 24 and pacer Tequan Roberts three for 55.
Clarendon College cruised to victory at 122-2, with Leonardo Barrett unbeaten on 40, while Jovannie Palmer made 38.
At Treasure Beach, champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) stayed on course with a five wicket win over Black River High.
Jamaica Under-17 representative Eejay Spence led the way with 70 as Black River High made 136 all out. For STETHS, seamer Kevoni Graham took four wickets for nine runs and captain Tyriek Bryan, bowling leg spin, supported with three for 50.
STETHS crossed the line at 140-5 with another national age-group representative, Odane Binns, stroking 69.
At Manley Horne Complex, Manchester High beat BB Coke High by 162 runs.
Manchester High made 206-4 declared with Matthew Morgan top scoring with 86, while Bryan Barnes made 38 not out.
Barnes then followed up with four wickets for five runs bowling leg spin, while off spinner Barrington Simpson took 4 for 21 as BB Coke High were bowled out for 44.
At Content Gardens, Tyson Gordon made 100 not out – his second unbeaten century in as many games – and Marland Williams 101 not out, as Tacky High piled up 335-1 declared, to beat Titchfield High by 295 runs.
Tacky High’s fast bowler Jevone Wynter, five wickets for 12 runs and fellow seamer, Romeo McDonald, four for 25, did the bulk of the damage as Titchfield were bowled out for 40.
At Garvey Maceo High, the home team played to a draw with Glenmuir High. Connell Jackson made 62 and Devaughney McIntiosh, 53, taking Garvey Maceo High to 201-5 declared.
Glenmuir High then replied with 64 for four.
At Ocho Rios High, the home team beat Green Pond High by seven wickets.
Seamer Reando Kelly took seven wickets for 17 runs as Green Pond High were dismissed for 93.
Kelly followed up with 37 as Ocho Rios High reached 94 for three wickets.
At Cornwall College, the home team beat Ferncourt High by 80 runs. Cornwall College fell for 113 all out with Shaya Samuels top scoring with 29. Henzel Evans made 24.
Spinner Amani Evans, who had earlier made 19, then proved deadly with the ball, taking seven wickets for eight runs to dismantle Ferncourt High’s batting for 33.
At York Castle High School, the home team beat Herbert Morrison Technical High by 38 runs. York Castle High made 118 all out with Danville Smith contributing 24 while Nathan Tate took four wickets for Herbert Morrison.
York Castle’s seamer Marco-Dean Clarke then grabbed six wickets for 15 to lead the way in dismissing Herbert Morrison Technical for 80.
At Addison Park, batting flopped on both sides as Brown’s Town High beat Cambridge High by 31 runs.
Brown’s Town High made 49 all out with Trishan Kerr (four for eight) and Desmond Dunn (3-12) as wicket takers for Cambridge High.
Brown’s Town bowlers Gavin Edwards (six for 10) and Devonte Jones (four for six) then hit back hard to bowl out Cambridge High for 18.
At Port Esquivel on February 9, Dinthill Technical edged Old Harbour High by one wicket. Dinthill’s seamers Jemone James (six wickets for 16) and Orjay Whittuingham (four for 28) combined to dismiss Old Harbour High for 55.
Whittingham top scored with 18 as Dinthill Technical scrambled home at 56-9 in a nail-biting finish. Jahmino Lewis took six for 31 for Old Harbour High.
At Port Esquivel on February 10, Port Antonio High beat Tacius Golding High by eight wickets.
Tacius Golding High 41 all out; Port Antonio High 42 for two wickets.
