St James Police identifies ex-boyfriend as suspect in woman’s murder
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Detectives from the St James Division have identified a person of interest in connection with the shooting death of a woman he was once romantically linked to.
The man has been identified only through his alias ‘Steven.’ He is from Rose Heights, St James, and is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the deceased.
Steven is being asked to present himself to the St James Police by midday, Tuesday, February 13, for questioning.
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Deneisha Samuels, also known as ‘Anna’ from Warricka Hill, Norwood in the parish.
Reports are that Samuels and ‘Steven’ were involved in a heated argument. It is alleged that ‘Steven’ left the location and returned in a white Toyota Axio motorcar and opened gunfire at Samuels.
Officers from the Barnett Street Police responded to the scene and discovered Samuels’ body with gunshot wounds to the head and upper torso. She was immediately transported to Cornwall Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident, which took place shortly before 9:00 pm in the vicinity of a popular food establishment, also resulted in another man being shot and injured.
Detectives are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force is urgently reminding everyone to seek to resolve domestic disputes peacefully and amicably.
“No disagreement or conflict is ever worth the irrevocable act of taking a loved one’s life. It is crucial to remember that there are always healthier, more constructive ways to address and settle differences,” the JCF said in a release on Tuesday.
“For those finding it challenging to navigate interpersonal conflicts, we strongly encourage seeking assistance from one of the JCFs Domestic Violence Intervention Centres island wide. These centres offer support, guidance, and resources designed to help individuals and families achieve resolution in a safe and supportive environment.”
