Nickisha Pryce is third-fastest Jamaican ever in women’s indoors 400m
Jamaican quarter-miler Nickisha Pryce of the University of Arkansas ran an indoor personal best 51.04 seconds, third-best ever by a Jamaican woman, to win the women’s 400m on Friday’s first day of the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Pryce beat the 51.58 seconds she ran in late January and is only behind national record holder Stephenie Ann McPherson (50.79 seconds) and Sandie Richards (50.93 seconds) on the Jamaican all-time list.
Her time is fourth best in the world so far and second in the NCAA.
In the meantime, hurdles specialist Garriel White of LSU was sixth overall in a personal best 52.62 seconds.
Nia Robinson of the University of Arkansas was second in the women’s long jump invitational with 6.45m while Reheem Hayles of the University of Florida was fifth in the men’s 400m in 46.41 seconds ahead of Rusheen McDonald who ran 47.08 seconds.
At the Boston College Eagle Elite Invitational at the New Balance complex, Aaliyah Foster of the University of Texas was second in the women’s long jump with 6.21m.
Dejanae Oakley of Texas ran 52.69 seconds in the women’s 400m while Travis Williams of the University of Southern California was second in the men’s 60m with 6.61, the same as the winner, teammate Juston Braun.
Three Jamaican men ran personal bests in the men’s 400m at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational. Demar Francis of Baylor University was fourth with 46.19 seconds, D’Andre Anderson of Clemson ran 46.45 seconds and Tahj Hamm, also of Clemson, clocked 46.96 seconds. Antonio Hanson of Ohio State ran a season’s best 47.08 seconds.
Adrienne Adams of Auburn University threw a personal best 18.67m in the women’s weight throw while Marie Forbes of Clemson was fifth in the women’s weight throw invitational with 20.37m. Clemson record holder Daniel Cope was third in the men’s weight invitational with 22.32m.
At the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt in Tennessee, Zayne Palomino of Southern Miss was fourth in the men’s high jump invitational with 2.16m.
