Minor glitch in Portland Western
BUFF BAY, Portland — With minor errors on their nomination forms fixed, eight candidates are now ready to contest the four divisions in Portland Western. They represent the two major political parties as no independents threw their hats into the ring.
Both parties had the same glitch during the nomination process. Their campaign managers had signed the nomination forms and that had to be corrected.
Five of the eight candidates are new to the electoral process, while two of the remaining three are seeking to retain their seats. The other ran before in Portland Eastern but lost.
Rohan Vassel of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will face off with the People’s National Party’s (PNP) David Sullivan in a contest for the Balcarres Division. The contest for Buff Bay is between Dionne Hunter (JLP) and the PNP’s Desmond Lewis.
For Clyde McKenzie (JLP) this will be his second try after a failed bid in Portland Eastern in 2012 when he was defeated by PNP veteran Dexter Rowland in the Port Antonio Division. This time around he will be up against Dennis Blackett in St Margaret’s Bay, while Orton Manahan (JLP) will face off against Peter Evans in Hope Bay.
