Iba Mahr makes return with ‘General’
Not much has been heard of Iba Mahr in recent times. The singer returns with a song saluting outstanding black heroes including Bob Marley, Mortimo Planno and Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I.
That song, General, is produced by Notis Records, which produced Diamond Sox, his 2014 hit single.
General is accompanied by a video directed by Jesse James.
“To be a general is an honourable title. This song speaks to the dignity and honour of what a general is. Jamaican musicians, are on the continued path of embracing the foundation of our culture and musical heritage. General offers an understanding of the names of leaders and Rastafarians we recognise as some of the most influential figures throughout history,” says Iba Mahr.
The 37 year-old roots artiste is from Linstead, St Catherine, rural Jamaica. Diamond Sox was inspired by the dances Iba Mahr’s father kept in Linstead. The song also had a popular remix with Tarrus Riley, and is the title of his lone album, released by VP Records in 2015.
The artiste retains ties to his hometown, by promoting the charity-based Sound The Alarm show there.
Iba Mahr’s initial songs 15 years ago were produced by legendary roots singer Max Romeo and Philip “Fatis” Burrell of Xterminator Records.
