First-time runners to dominate Mercury Sprint
The native-bred three-year-olds’ campaign leading up the Triple Crown series of races continues with the $1.05-million Mercury Sprint, one of the highlighting event on tomorrow’s nine-race card.
The race is a maiden special weight for native-bred three-year-old colts and geldings an will venture over the 5-furlong (1,000m) straight course.
Below is the analysis of each runner.
1. CHIEF DISSIDENT : (3 b c by Casual Trick – Revolving Beauty) – Is going to be left behind in this one. Note: Blinkers on/first-time Lasix administered.
2. WARRIORSTOMP: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Cup O Tea) – Has been on the improvement with a third-place finish on January 13 and a second-place finish on January 21.
Warriorstomp is expected to deliver once again.
3. D BAY MACHINE: (3 ch c by Tapilu – Lady Elaine) – Nicely bred colt who makes his debut here.
D Bay Machine has been working quite well for this race and given stable’s confidence of being a noteworthy runner, he could challenge for top honour here.
4. PAPPIE DON: (3 b c by Sensational Slam – Sparkling Michaela) – Going to need more time.
5. BOLD SHADOW: (3 b c by Sunshine N Shadow – Charming Beauty) – Has raced two times already and placed fifth on both occasions. With the experience again,
Bold Shadow should put in his best effort to date here.
6. THE GENERAL: (3 b c by Northern Giant – Mama Blossom) – Another first-time starter who is touted to have some ability.
The General should run well here.
7. TEFLON DON: (3 b c by Casual Trick – The Lady Scored) – Has been training well for his debut run here.
Teflon Don has looked a good one in the making from his exercise gallops and could open his account right away here.
