Customer complaints put CSport under BCJ probe
The Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) says it has launched an investigation following public complaints of intermittent issues with viewing the English Premier League via CSport cable channels and website over some months.
VertiCast Media Group, which owns CSport distribution channels, is the exclusive broadcast rights holder for the English Premier League across the Caribbean.
When CSport went live at the start of the Premier League season in 2022, customers were promised live, uninterrupted football coverage, but subscribers have reportedly been experiencing intermittent disruptions in recent times.
The most recent incident of viewers being unable to watch the Premier League occurred last weekend, when the matches included the blockbuster Arsenal vs Liverpool game. Subscribers report that despite the issues, they are still being charged for the service.
The BCJ in an interview told Observer Online that it is aware of the complaints and the oversight body is probing the matter.
“BCJ is aware of the public complaints and the matter is being investigated. I will therefore say nothing further on the matter until it is completed,” said Cordel Green, executive director of BCJ.
Green, who spoke with Observer Online while abroad on his return from the UNESCO Global Forum on Artificial Intelligence, which was convened in Slovenia, outlined what the BCJ would require from VertiCast during the course of the investigation.
“Suffice it to say Verticast is being required to provide the Commission with details of the failure to provide service and the remedial measures which have or are to be taken to compensate the public for any failure to satisfy contractual obligations. BCJ will keep the public informed on the progress of its investigations and the outcome,” Green added.
Green went on to advise that people who have complaints about cable, television or radio services can contact the BCJ offices, via social media or emailing info@broadcom.org. He stated that the public should avoid using (876) 929-1998 as that number is not working properly.
Queries to VertiCast Media Group about its knowledge of the complaints, and whether subscribers will be compensated went unanswered up to publication.
