Court ruling clears way for JFF elections
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has been given the green light to set a new date for the postponed voting congress after the court on Friday upheld a submission to deny an application filed by Patricia Garel and Beach Soccer Jamaica to extend an injunction.
Garel had filed an injunction in January to postpone the congress set for January 14 after her organisation was left off the list of eligible voters.
However, in a release on Friday, the JFF stated that the courts sided with submissions from its lawyers, Kaysian Kennedy-Sherman and Danique Gooden, denying “the application for the continuation of the temporary injunction on the election … on the basis that the applicant (Patricia Garel and Beach Soccer Jamaica) did not establish that they are an affiliate or member of the JFF and as such there is no serious issue to be tried by the court.”
The release also stated, “This has been the position of the JFF, and we are pleased that the way is now cleared for us to set the new election date, which will be determined by the Board.”
JFF President Michael Ricketts is being challenged for the top job by Vice-President Raymond Anderson.
