Campbell tunes up for World Indoors with national record
Jamaica’s World Championships finalist Rajindra Campbell stepped up his preparation for the World Athletics Indoor Championships after setting a new Jamaican record in the shot put, 21.13m, for third place at the Orlen Cup Lodz at Atlas Arena, Lodz, Poland, a World Athletics Indoor Tour – Bronze event on January 27.
He broke the Jamaican record 20.68m set by Odayne Richards on February 1, 2019 in Nehvizdy, Czech Republic and also improved on his previous best of 20.07m set in 2020 at the Robert W Plaster Center, Pittsburg, Kansas.
Olympian Dorian Scott had held the Jamaican record before Richards after he threw 20.62m in March 2008 at Velódromo Luis Puig in Valencia, Spain.
Caniggia Raynor had also thrown 20.92m at a meet in Warrenburgh, USA, but while it was recognised by World Athletics, the mark was never ratified by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).
Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri won in Poland with 21.26m and Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Cornnell Enekwechi was second with 21.14m.
