PNP councillor caretaker remains hospitalised hours before nomination day
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – With local government election nominations set to begin in less than 24 hours, People’s National Party (PNP) councillor caretaker for the Little London Division in Westmoreland, Oliver Reid, remains hospitalised.
Reid will face off against councillor Ian Myles, who will run on a Jamaica Labour Party ticket after leaving the PNP, come February 26.
Reid, who is Myles’ former campaign manager and driver for Member of Parliament aspirant for Westmoreland Western and vice president for the party, Ian Hayles, has reportedly been hospitalised since last week after falling ill.
The caretaker will have to make it to the Grange Hill Anglican Church on Thursday with his supporters, to get nominated.
But the 61-year-old is still hospitalised, leaving the PNP in limbo.
Reid told the Observer Online in an interview last week that he refused to be a turncoat, and broke link with the deputy mayor of Savanna-La-Mar.
“When he decided to go to the JLP, that is when I took the decision and said, ‘No, I can’t go that side with you.’ I don’t really see myself supporting the Jamaica Labour Party.”
