Flow champions responsible use of digital technology among youth
FLOW Jamaica, in its continued push for online safety, will focus on the country’s youth as it encourages positive online behaviour and raises awareness among users of the technology on Safer Internet Day, which is being marked today.
The company’s Flow Foundation will join its Liberty Latin America (LLA) counterparts, and other organisations, in promoting safer and more responsible use of digital technology.
As part of its Safer Internet Day activities Flow Foundation will host a youth summit at Kendal Camp and Conference Centre in Mandeville, Manchester, under the theme ‘Cyber Life: Balancing Safety with Opportunities’.
The summit will host more than 300 students and will feature a panel including two of Jamaica’s top content creators in Tami Chin Mitchell and Quite Perry, psychologist Yanique Peddlar, information technology experts, and student leaders.
Flow has been a long-time champion of online safety, and the company says it is committed to empowering individuals to navigate the digital world securely, fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and empathy online.
Marilyn Sealy, senior director of communications at Cable and Wireless Communications, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s involvement in this important initiative.
“In today’s digital age, ensuring a safer Internet experience is not just a responsibility — it’s a necessity,” said Sealy.
She argued that Safer Internet Day serves as a timely reminder for all of us to prioritise online safety and well-being.
“At Flow we are dedicated to fostering a secure digital environment and empowering users with the necessary skills to make informed and responsible choices online,” added Sealy as she emphasised the need for collective efforts.
“Safer Internet Day is a moment for reflection, education, and action. We believe that by working together with communities, educators, and industry stakeholders, we can create a safer and more positive online experience for everyone. Flow is proud to contribute to this global movement and play a pivotal role in shaping a safer digital future.”
According to Sealy, Flow is encouraging individuals, schools, businesses, and communities to join the Safer Internet Day conversation by understanding the fundamentals of Internet safety and participating in various online events by using the hashtags
#SaferInternetDay and
#ConnectedandProtected.
