KC, Immaculate early leaders at Corporate Area Champs
Kingston College and Immaculate High are the early leaders of the Corporate Area Championship, set for February 16 and 17, after four finals were held during the Youngster Goldsmith Meet on Saturday.
With the Corporate Area Championship not having the National Stadium available this year, the event will be held at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium, however, the venue is not suitable for four events – discus, pole vault, steeplechase and javelin.
These four events or five finals were contested on Saturday and Kingston College emerged with 51 points, four ahead of JC on 47 with Calabar High in third with 34 points. Wolmer’s Boy are fourth on 19 with Excelsior rounding out the top 5 with 11 points.
Immaculate High led the girls’ section with 49 points, seven clear of Excelsior on 42 points. Wolmer’s Girls are third with 33 points followed by Merl Grove on 23 and Alpha fifth with 17 points.
Immaculate’s Jamie-Lee Tulloch is the Class Three girls’ discus champion with 36.26m, while her teammate Jada Francis won the Class Two event with 39.70m. Najhada Seymoure of Excelsior is the Class One champion with 46.47m.
Immaculate also won the javelin throw courtesy of Zoelle Javel with 39.75m ahead of Excelsior’s Tamara Dustin with 30.25m.
The boy’s javelin had a real international flavour with the best-placed Jamaican student finishing sixth. JC was first and second in the boy’s javelin courtesy of the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Lebron James (59.50m) and Dorian Charles (58.98m).
Grenada’s DeAndre Bristol of St George’s College was third with 55.27m ahead of his countryman Jurel Clement of KC with 53.44. Cuba’s Alexander Betancourt of KC was fifth with 50.09m ahead of Tarique Daley of Calabar with 49.37 in sixth.
Kenya’s Brian Kiprop of KC won the steeplechase in 6:00.47 ahead of Evans Tetteh of JC and Ghana in 6:14.34.
Shaquinn Dunn of JC took the Class One discus with 61.42m ahead of Calabar’s Delano Lawrence with 54.63m. KC’s Antwon Walkins of Turks and Caicos was third with 52.32m.
Calabar was first and third in the Class Two discus as Deandre Henry won with 47.20m and Khalleel Henry with 39.64m. KC’s Khalil Braham was second with 40.06m.
The points were garnered from the best placing from the corporate area teams at the Youngster Goldsmith Meet which means the winner declared for the Corporate Area Championship may not be the winners at the Youngster Goldsmith Meet.
