Blu Sensation has the ability to compete in the Classics — Peter-John Parsard
Following Blu Sensation’s maiden win on Saturday, January 27, 2024, trainer Peter-John Parsard believes his three-year-old bay filly has the potential to be a Classic contender.
With Raddesh Roman in the saddle,
Blu Sensation easily brushed aside rivals by 7 ¾ lengths in a maiden special weight event for native-bred three-year-olds over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
Blu Sensation covered the distance in a time of 1:37.1 (24.1 x 48.3 x 1:15.0).
“She [Blue Sensation] is a very talented horse that has been unlucky, and so we were hopeful that she would put together the kind of performance she had today,” Parsard told the
Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“She has the ability; she earned $1 million before she broke her maiden, and we always had her as a Classic horse. We know that she can stay, so hopefully, she just keeps improving and progressing so that when the business time of the season comes, she will be there.
“We think she will end up being a horse good enough to go into the Classic races. How favoured she will be in the Classics will decide how she develops between now and then. The jockey did a good job. I mean, Roman is riding really well, and he did the most important thing, which is to get the job done,” the second-generation trainer added.
It was a smooth start for Blu Sensation at the off, as the Sensational Slam offspring settled in third place behind Tee Off (Robert Halledeen) and Bold Shadow (Tevin Foster) down the backstretch.
Blue Sensation maintained her steady gallop well until going into the half-mile (800m) when she went in chase of stablemate Tee Off.
Approaching the distance, Blu Sensation hit the front full of running and brought the field into the lane on a merry clip. With no real challenger coming forward, Blu Sensation went on her merry ways to register her first win from seven starts.
Affair (Dane Dawkins) was second, and Amma (Phillip Parchment) finished third.
