Police corporal charged with 2022 murder offered $1.5 million bail
A police corporal who has been charged with the 2022 murder of a man was offered bail in the amount of $1.5 million when he showed up for court on Thursday.
The corporal, Deon Carr, was also ordered by the judge to continue reporting to the Spanish Town Police Station, in addition to other sureties associated with his bail.
Corporal Carr is facing charges of murder and shooting with intent from an incident in August 2022, where Tajay Smith was fatally shot and another man was injured in Greendale, St Catherine.
Carr was reportedly off duty at the time of the shooting.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) launched an investigation following which Carr was charged, under the directives of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Carr is represented by attorneys Hugh Wildman, John Jacobs and Courtney Rowe. He is expected to be back in court on May 21, 2024.
