Elderly brothers shot, one fatally, in St Elizabeth robbery
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Two elderly brothers were shot, one fatally, during a robbery in Newcastle district in St Elizabeth on Wednesday afternoon.
The dead man has been identified as 69-year-old Desmond Wright of Williamsfield district in the parish. His brother was treated at hospital.
Information reaching Observer Online indicates that around 12:50 pm, both men went to Newcastle district to purchase cattle when they were reportedly accosted by six gunmen.
According to the police, the gunmen demanded cash and one of the brothers reportedly handed over $600,000. The gunmen then opened gunfire at the two, hitting Desmond in the chest and the other in his leg.
Both were transported to the Black River Hospital, where Desmond was pronounced dead.
It is alleged that the now-deceased was a licensed firearm holder but did not have his weapon with him at the time of the incident.
