Bowlers dominate first round of 2024 ISSA Grace Headley Cup
Ocho Rios High’s fast bowler Rushawn Lynch grabbed eight wickets for nine runs to lead his school to a 38-run victory over Ferncourt High in a low-scoring game in the first round of the 2024 rural area Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association Grace Headley Cup last Friday.
Batting first at the Content Gardens cricket ground, Ocho Rios High managed just 62 all out against the pace of Ferncourt High’s Jordan Pryce who took five wickets for six runs.
But then Lynch, whose eight-wicket haul came in seven overs and three balls, and fast-bowling partner Reando Kelly (2 for 12) hit back hard to dismiss Ferncourt for just 24, to complete victory for Ocho Rios High.
At Cambridge High School, the home team went down by 139 runs to visiting Cornwall College. The visitors were led by an outstanding all-round performance from their Captain Damian Daley who first made 76 as Cornwall reached 201 all out. Daley was supported by Dashan Evans who made 58.
Off spinner Romario Hall was the standout bowler for Cambridge High with seven for 38.
Daley then grabbed five for 18 with his off spin as Cambridge High were skittled for 62.
At Cornwall College, Brown’s Town High School beat Herbert Morrison Technical High by 10 wickets. Nathan Tate top-scored with 38 as Herbert Morrison could only manage 99 all out. Brown’s Town then cruised to 100 without loss, with J’Dain Bailey making 58 not out and Akeem Mitchell 30 not out.
At Green Pond High, the home team defeated York Castle High by 24 runs in yet another low-scoring encounter. Green Pond first made 74 all out with Kemar Parker top-scoring with 38. Marcoden Clarke took five for 14 for York Castle High.
In reply, York Castle made 50 all out. Dequan Cornisse took three for 21 for Green Pond High.
