Lion Charmer finally off the mark
Lion Charmer ,after 15 career starts — inclusive of four second-place finishes and three thirds — finally found the winner’s post in front in a Maiden Condition race for native-bred four-year-olds and upward on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Tevin Foster,
Lion Charmer came from behind runners to win the 71/2 furlongs (1,500m) contest by 16 lengths in a time of 1:36.2 (24.3 x 48.4 x 1:15.1).
Foster was in no rush in the early stages of the race as he held the four-year-old chestnut filly in fourth place at the off.
Lion Charmer trailed
Xylophonic Steel (Everton Miller),
Cassini (Shamaree Muir), and
Blitz Strike (Roger Hewitt) down the backstretch.
Lion Charmer continued to bide her time well until making her way into the half-mile (800m) turn when she began to round horses, looking dangerous coming off the final bend.
Lion Charmer motored her way to the front inside the final furlong and a half and kept on going away from rivals until the wire intervened.
Blitz Strike was second and
Xylophonic Steel finished third.
