‘Smurf’ charged with breaches of the Firearms Act
KINGSTON, Jamaica —A 23-year-old construction worker had several charges laid against him in relation to a shooting incident in a section of Denham Town on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
Charged with shooting with intent, possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and use of a firearm to commit a felony is Alex Sangster, also known as ‘Smurf’ of Elgin Street, Denham Town.
Reports from the Denham Town police are that about 7:15 pm, a man was sitting at the intersection of Nuttall and Victoria Streets, when he was pounced upon by Sangster and two other men, all armed with firearms.
The men reportedly opened gunfire at the man, who ran in a bid to escape injury. The attackers reportedly escaped into the area.
When the shooting subsided, it was discovered that a man and a woman, who was in close proximity at the time of the incident, were injured.
They were assisted to hospital, where they were treated.
A report was subsequently made to the police and Sangster was arrested during an operation on Saturday, January 13.
His court date is being arranged.
