In-form Roman rides 6 winners at Caymanas Park
Raddesh Roman continued his outstanding riding form run at Caymanas Park on Sunday, winning six of the 10 races on offer.
It was the first time in his career that Roman rode six winners in a single race programme, joining a rare group of riders to have done so. The latest jockey to ride six victories was Dane Nelson, who accomplished the feat on November 17, 2013, earning him national recognition for the People’s Choice Award. Andrew Ramgeet has the record for the most wins in one day, which stands at eight.
Roman’s winners included Sensational Move and A Gift From Ben who were winners of both divisions of the $1.25-million James B Dawes Memorial Cup feature races over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m).
Trained by Gary Subratie, Sensational Move won division one of the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward by 12 ½ lengths in a time of 1:05.4 (23.1 x 46.2). Finishing second was Kwaku (Jerome Innis), while third was The Good Witch (Ramon Nepare).
A Gift From Ben was also an easy winner of division two as the five-year-old chestnut mare made one get up to win by 4 lengths ahead of Milos (Tevin Foster) and God of Love (Chris Mamdeen). The winning time was 1:06.4 (23.2 x 46.2).
Roman’s other winners were Crown Chaser and Wow How for trainer Anthony Nunes in the second and 10th races, respectively; Dodge This Link for trainer Joseph Thomas in the fifth race; and Great Wayne for trainer Marlon Pusey in the sixth race.
“First of all, I must say thank you to all the connections of the horses. Thanks to the owners, the trainers, the grooms, my agent, and basically everyone for their support,” Roman told the
Jamaica Observer.
“I am feeling very happy at the moment. I mean, words can’t explain the feeling right now, but I am a happy man,” he added.
Racing continues on Saturday.
