PB for Forbes at Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet
National sprinter Shashalee Forbes equalled her personal best (PB) to win the women’s 60m event at The Queen’s/Grace Jackson Development Meet at National Stadium on Saturday.
Forbes, who is coached by Maurice Wilson at Sprintec Track Club, finished in 7.03 seconds, ahead of Briana Williams (7.11) and Tia Clayton, who finished third in a PB time of 7.18.
Forbes was surprised by her performance.
“To be honest, I was a little doubtful coming into the race because I was feeling a little heavy, but I crossed the finish line with the win, so I am happy about that,” she said. “My season has been going great so far and to come out and equal my personal best is great for me.”
Ackeem Blake won the men’s equivalent in 6.49, ahead of Bryan Levell (6.59) and Emre Barnes (6.60).
Candice McLeod won the women’s 200m in 24.83, ahead of Kishawn Niles (25.28) and Akrisa Eristee (25.41).
Jamaica College’s (JC) Hector Benjamin clocked 21.65 to win the Class One boys’ 200m event. Kingston College’s (KC) Amal Glasgow was second overall in 21.80, while third went to Gary Card from Wolmer’s Boys’ in 21.86.
Abigail Wolfe, formerly of Holy Childhood, now representing Wolmer’s Girls’, won the Class One girls’ 200m timed final event in 25.16. Chevauna Grant of Titchfield was second in 25.49, while third went to Holmwood’s Monique Proudlove in 25.54.
JC’s Devonric Mack clocked 47.83 to win the Class One boys’ 400m in 47.83, in front of KC’s duo of Marcinho Rose (48.55) and Antonio Forbes (48.98).
St Jago’s Quana Walker won the Class One girls’ 400m comfortably in 56.94, ahead of Holmwood’s Camio White (58.30) and Kayla Myers of Hydel (59.19).
JC’s distance runner Kemarrio Bygrave produced a season’s best time of 1:54.14 minutes to win the Class One boys’ 800m timed final ahead of KC’s Jacquan Coke (1:56.46) and Schevorn Wardlow (1:57.14).
Carlene Temple of Alphansus Davis won the girls’ equivalent in a season’s best time of 2:13.75. Kaydeen Johnson of Hydel was second in 2:14.64, while third went to Cindy Rose of Holmwood in 2:15.76.
