Mt Pleasant, Portmore United win to stay on top in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Champions Mt Pleasant FA and Portmore United remained in the top two positions in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League after wins over Dunbeholden FC and Treasure Beach respectively on Sunday.
Mt Pleasant FA beat Dunbeholden 2-1 at Dunbeholden to improve to 35 points and will remain in the lead for at least this round, while Portmore United were 3-1 winners over Treasure Beach at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz and are on 34 points, on goal-difference over Cavalier SC.
Daniel Green had given Mt Pleasant FA an early lead when he converted a second minute penalty before Shaquiel Bradford scored his second since moving from Harbour View, to give them a 2-0 lead in the 32nd minute.
An own goal from Kimoni Bailey in the 69th minute gave Dunbeholden hope but they failed to get any closer.
Portmore United got off to a fast start and led Treasure Beach 3-0 inside the first 20 minutes of their game.
Clayton Peck scored the first goal in the second minute, Stephen Young added a second in the 17th minute and Tedj Bryan made it 3-0 in the 19th minute.
Romario Bryan scored Treasure Beach’s first goal in eight games when he scored in the 43rd minute, a span of 720 minutes since their last goal in the first half of a 4-1 loss to Waterhouse on December 18.
Waterhouse FC also had a 1-0 win over Lime Hall Academy, Revaldo Mitchell scoring in the 55th minute as they moved up to sixth place.
