Ziggy recalls standout moment in the production of Bob’s biopic
KINGSTON, Jamaica-International recording artiste Ziggy Marley says the funny side of his father the late reggae icon Bob Marley, which was re-enacted in the biopic Bob Marley: One Love by British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, ranks as the standout moment for him.
Marley, a Grammy winning and platinum selling reggae act, made the comments during an interview with Observer Online at the premiere of the biopic last Tuesday at Carib 5.
“Mi think the standout moment fi mi is like seeing Kingsley doing the funny side of Bob, the humorous side weh mi know and plenty people nuh know. Bob was a man weh love joke roun and mi love dat,” said Ziggy.
Marley and his sister Cedella as well as their mother Rita, Bob’s widow, served as producers on the biographical film which opens in cinemas worldwide on February 14. Award-winning British actress Lashana Lynch plays Rita in the film.
Ziggy along with his siblings Sharon, Cedella and Stephen formed the Grammy winning Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers group in 1979. The group went on to achieve commercial success with the gold selling album One Bright Day and the platinum certified Conscious Party album.
He later embarked on a solo career which saw him releasing eight studio albums to date and several awards to his credit.
His 2006 Grammy winning album Love is My Religion has sold more than 200,000 copies in the United States.
Ziggy’s most recent body of work, More Family Time (Deluxe) was released in September last year. It features collaborations with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Lisa Loeb and Stephen Marley among others.
