Sasher-Gaye Henry to be named Sunshine Girls head coach
Sasher-Gaye Henry has been appointed as the new head coach of Jamaica’s national senior netball team, the Jamaica Observer has been reliably informed.
It is understood that the 44-year-old Henry was notified by Netball Jamaica about her appointment on Friday afternoon.
Henry along with former Sunshine Girls assistant coach Annett Daley were shortlisted for the position, which became vacant after Connie Francis decided not to renew her contract with the organisation following Jamaica’s bronze medal finish at the Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa in August of 2023.
However, when contacted on Friday, Tricia Robinson, president of Netball Jamaica, said she will not be commenting on the matter as her organisation will be holding a press conference to announce the new coach.
Henry is no stranger to the national coaching set-up. As co-coach, alongside Marvette Anderson, she led the Sunshine Girls to a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Henry, a former midcourt player, played a vital role in securing a bronze medal for the Sunshine Girls at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, during her playing career.
