Racing, Tru-Juice extend perfect starts to four games in JFF Championship
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – Racing United and Tru-Juice FC both ran their perfect starts to four straight wins in the Jamaica Football Federation Championships on Wednesday with victories away to western opponents Reno FC and Falmouth United respectively.
Both leaders, who raced to 12 points and are separated by goal-difference, were made to work hard for their victories as after scoring five goals in each of their two previous games, Racing United edged Reno FC 1-0 while Tru-Juice FC scored twice in the second half to get past a wasteful Falmouth United team.
Former national player Errol Stevens continued his good scoring run as he got both goals for Browns Town who came from behind to beat Portlanders FC 2-1 and move into third place in the tables on nine points, two more than Chapleton Maroons and Baptist Alliance who also scored wins.
At Llandilo Sports Complex, Javaughn Cole scored his league leading fifth goal, scoring in the 47th minute, as Reno FC lost back-to-back home games by 1-0 margins.
Romario Taylor scored in the 61st minute and Seivon Thompson in the 85th minute as Tru-Juice FC made Falmouth United pay for their missed chances at Elleston-Wakeland Centre.
Taylor was left unmarked at the far left post and had very little to do to tap in a cross that beat the Falmouth United defence from two yards out, while Thompson headed home a corner.
Radcliff Palmer had given Portlanders FC the lead in the 59th minute but Stevens equalised in the 74th minute for Browns Town before scoring the winner deep into time added.
Jamari Howell scored a double to lead Chapleton Maroons to a 3-0 win over Hopewell United with Junior Lynch getting the other goal as they won their second game.
Stephan Campbell’s 12th minute goal was enough for Baptist Alliance to get by Petersfield FC at Heartease Community Centre while Faulkland FC got a well needed win, clipping St Bess United 2-1 in St Elizabeth.
Kevar Levy scored a double to lead Gray’s Inn to a 2-1 win over Meadforest FC who are at the foot of the table. Levy gave Gray’s Inn the lead in time added at the end of the first half, and Junior McGregor levelled for Meadforest in the 64th, but Levy got the winner in time added at the end of the second half.
