Organisers brace for packed fields at STETHS Invitational
THE organisers of the 39th staging of the Grace/STETHS Invitational track and field meet, to be held at St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex on Saturday, are anticipating full fields after reporting “oversubscribed entries”.
Dwayne Jarrett, head coach of the St Elizabeth Technical High School teams and the meet director, said punctuality will be key.
“We have got a lot of entries — you can say we are oversubscribed — and as such we have to start on time and the meet must flow for us to make sure we are on time,” he told the
Jamaica Observer on Friday.
“We have entries from just about all the western schools, quite a few from the central schools, as well as entries from St Catherine schools as well.
“If the weather stays good we are in for a good day of competition,” Jarrett said.
Former Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) girls’ championships winners Edwin Allen High are among the entries for the meet, as well as Clarendon College, Manchester High, and entrants from other schools in central Jamaica.
Cornwall College, Munro College, Petersfield High, William Knibb Memorial, Mount Alvernia High and Lacovia High are among the western schools down to participate.
The event, which is a qualifier for the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships to be held in March, will feature competition in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, and 400m hurdles, in all classes for both genders; the 4x400m and 4x800m relays; and in the field all throws and jumps, also for both genders and in all classes, will be on show as well.
