Derby winner Ability makes seasonal debut
Last year’s Jamaica Derby winner
Ability makes his first appearance for the season in what should be an easy win in the $1.19-million Restricted Stakes event (1,400m) on tomorrow’s nine-race programme.
The race is for imported three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds (non-winners of four) and will see
Ability taking on five runners over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Below is the analysis of each runner.
1. NORBLAR: (4 b c by Wannabeaplayer – Special Degree) – Vastly improved runner who was a winner on December 30, 2023 over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m). Facing
Ability here,
Norblar is not expected to repeat but should do well here to make the exotics.
2.GEOLITHIC (USA): (4 b f byNeolithic – Queen) – Showed nothing at the races on January when finishing in last position of six runners over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
Geolithic is better suited to this trip and should run an improved race here. Note: Tongue-tie on.
3.PRINCESS AMAHLE (USA): (3 b f by Klimt – Nuestra Union) – Talented filly who was a 13-length winner over 6 furlongs (1,200m) on December 30, 2023 in 1:13.1. While
Princess Amahle is not expected to win, she should make her presence felt throughout the race.
4. ABILITY : (4 b c by Lion Tamer – Disability Charm) – Finished a good second behind American-bred
Rough Entry in the Mouttet Mile over one mile (1,600m) on December 2, 2023.
Ability has been working well for his seasonal debut here and with nothing impressive in the line-up, it should be an afternoon stroll for him here.
5.GRECIAN LIGHT (USA): (3 b f by Girvin – Mo Zin) – Released the maiden the second time of asking over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) on December 2, 2023.
Grecian Light looks likely a good one in the making and could chase home
Ability here.
6.REJECTED RAJA: (4 ch c by Soul Warrior – Palace Gold) – Is going to be left behind here.
