Vessel spreading the gospel through different sounds
As his name implies, Vessel’s prime objective is to reach fans with the Word of God by whatever means. A fan of secular music, he sees nothing wrong with fusing those sounds to spread his message.
The South Florida-based singjay’s latest songs, Truly Bless and Doing it Big, have dancehall and EDM elements. They are produced by Craig McDonald, Vessel’s longtime collaborator.
Those songs were released in late 2023.
“My aim is to spread the gospel through my music. To impact the next generation of believers you have to reach them on their music level. So, I am blessed to be in a position where I can do reggae, dancehall, hip hop or R&B. I can do whatever it is to reach them,” said Vessel.
His appreciation for eclectic sounds have driven his music since he began recording songs with DNC, a harmony trio, almost 20 years ago. They can also be heard on Christwalker and His Steps, the two albums the Clarendon-born artiste has released to date.
Before migrating to the United States 25 years ago, Avlon Coleman (Vessel’s real name) was hooked on the music of Michael Bolton, Bryan Adams, Tupac Shakur and Dr Dre.
As a solo act, Vessel struck up a fruitful partnership with the like-minded McDonald who has produced most of his songs.
“We have a great thing going on. He’s versed in everything,” said Vessel.
